Free agent Seok Jae-Lee is in line for a move to Sunderland after turning down a contract at League One rivals Portsmouth, according to The News.
While the Black Cats haven’t given up on an ambitious deal for last season’s loan star Dion Sanderson, despite being consigned to a fourth season of third-tier football following their play-off defeat to Lincoln City, the reality is Sunderland will probably have to aim slightly lower.
The Wearside giants are scouring the market for bargain signings, taking a host of players on trial in recent weeks.
Tyrese Dyce, the former West Bromwich Albion winger, is one potential addition, with Aston Villa’s Harrison Sohna also under consideration.
Sunderland are also looking at Crystal Palace youngster Cameron Jessup.
And, according to reports from the South Coast, Korean winger Seok Jae-Lee is set to undergo a trial in the north east as he weighs up his next move.

Sunderland will have to pay Portsmouth if Lee signs
The Seoul-born forward turned down the chance to extend his contract at Portsmouth and is now available for transfer, although Sunderland would have to pay compensation for a man who recently became a free agent.
In Lee Johnson, the Black Cats have a coach who boasts a proud track record when it comes to developing youngsters.
Should he impress on Wearside, Sunderland may be the ideal destination for Lee to fulfil his potential.
