Harrison Sohna recently spent time on Wearside as he prepares to leave Aston Villa, while 20-year-old winger Tyrese Dyse is also in contention after being released by West Bromwich Albion.

Jessup did net an own-goal in the seven-goal thriller, however, and it remains to be seen how that will affect his chances of securing a contract at the Wearside giants.

Luke Nock and Tom Scott also featured against Newcastle.

The former rose through the ranks at recently relegated Rochdale and enjoyed a brief spell at Blackburn Rovers a few weeks ago. Scott, meanwhile, is an attacking midfielder who honed his talents at Northampton Town.
