Leeds United Director of Football Victor Orta has said on The Phil Hay Show on The Athletic that it will be tough for the club to sign Rodrigo De Paul.
Il Milanista reported earlier this month that Leeds and Liverpool are leading the race for the Udinese attacking midfielder, as covered by HITC Sport.
The Sun reported in January 2021 that Leeds are looking at making a move for the £40 million-rated Argentine star in the summer of 2021.
Orta has said that it is going to be tough for Leeds to sign the 27-year-old, and has also referred to the Argentina international – who can operate as a winger as well – tweeting about the Whites last summer.
Earlier this month, Leeds Chief Executive Angus Kinnear said on The Phil Hay Show on The Athletic that the De Paul rumour does not have any legs.
Orta said about De Paul on The Phil Hay Show on The Athletic: “It was really clever movement of Rodrigo De Paul to choose the best magazine of Leeds United to put a favourite and then create this hype that he created.”
The Leeds official added: “I don’t know, It’s really difficult. It’s a player with good valuation.”

Orta does not seem to completely rule out the signing of De Paul.
Could a transfer happen?
Maybe, maybe not.
De Paul is a very good creative player who scores goals and creates chances.
The 27-year-old scored nine goal and gave nine assists in 36 Serie A games this season.
Pablo Hernandez is leaving Leeds, and although the Spaniard did not play much this season, head coach Marcelo Bielsa could do with another option in attacking midfield.
