It is four years now since Ryan Jack swapped Pittodrie for Ibrox.

In that time, Aberdeen have fallen further and further away from the summit of Scottish football, finishing a distant fourth in 2020/21 while their former captain was swigging champagne with the Premiership trophy clutched under his arm.

With the Dons stalling and the Gers revving, it is easy to understand – at least from a neutral perspective – why young Lewis Ferguson would be tempted by the prospect of joining Jack in the blue half of Glasgow.

A summer move to Rangers would not only give Ferguson the chance to get his hands on silverware, it would also see him follow in the footsteps of his legendary uncle at one of the best-supported clubs in British football.

Ferguson handed in a transfer request on Wednesday after Aberdeen knocked back what they described as an ‘insulting’ £2 million bid from Watford.

Rangers are sniffing around too, according to the Sun, their coffers boosted and their reputation enhanced by a first league title in a decade.

Whether Ferguson would even command a regular place in a high-quality Rangers engine room is another matter entirely.

Even the likes of Scott Arfield and Jack himself are not guaranteed a starting place under Steven Gerrard these days.

But the view from the Pittodrie terraces seems to reflect that of their club as a whole, not to mention that of Aberdeen legend Willie Miller.

Ferguson, after producing ten goals and five assists this season, is worth a damn sight more than £2 million.
