Aberdeen legend Willie Miller believes the Dons should not accept a penny less than £4 million for reported Rangers target Lewis Ferguson, as he told the Evening Express.

Is there a single player in the Scottish Premiership better suited to Steven Gerrard’s newly-crowned champions?

Tenacious and technically gifted in equal measure, Lewis Ferguson is a brilliant, battling midfielder capable of firing home from the edge of the box at on end before breaking up a counter-attack at the other.

The 21-year-old mustered ten goals this season and even more yellow cards.

Did we mention that his uncle is the five-time title-winning Gers great Barry Ferguson?

While the prospect of following in Barry’s footsteps at Ibrox certainly has something of a fairy-tale feel to it, Aberdeen are not just going to pat their talismanic midfielder on the back and wish him good luck at Ibrox.

The Scotland U21 international has three years left on his contract at Pittodrie, as 1983 Cup Winners’ Cup champion Miller is at pains to point out.

“Any club interested in signing Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson would have to come in with an exceptional bid in excess of £4 million,” Miller said.

“Even then that may not be enough as Ferguson is contracted to the Dons for the next three years and is clearly seen key to future plans at the club.”

The Sun reports that Watford, fresh from sealing their return to the Premier League, have made a £2 million bid for Ferguson. For Miller, however, Aberdeen should be demanding a far greater sum for a 21-year-old with vast potential.

“It would need to be more than double that £2m figure for Aberdeen to even start thinking about any possibility of selling Ferguson,” he added.

“No supporter or club wants to see their key players leave, but the bottom line is, for teams in Scotland, and I include Rangers and Celtic in this, if the offer is right the player goes.

“However, an offer of £2m is nowhere near enough to make Aberdeen consider (selling Ferguson).”

It remains to be seen what sort of a role Gerrard envisages Ferguson taking on at Ibrox.

Do Rangers see the youngster as a long-term successor for the Milngavie Modric that is Steven Davis? Or perhaps as an attack-minded, box-to-box option capable of competing with Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo?
