Rangers and Celtic will be hoping to hold on to their key assets as the January transfer window draws to a close
As the end of the January transfer window approaches, both Celtic and Rangers will be looking to keep hold of their most important players.
23 points separate the top two sides in the Scottish Premiership, with Rangers looking highly likely to end Celtic’s 10-in-a-row dream.
For Steven Gerrard, the priority will be ensuring no slip-ups between now and the end of the campaign as they aim to maintain their unbeaten league record.
The current champions, meanwhile, may already have an eye on mounting a comeback next season.
To that end, Odsonne Edouard is set to be a major talking point over the coming days.
This month alone, the likes of West Ham, Leicester City and Juventus have all been mentioned in connection with the French striker.
At Ibrox, Alfredo Morelos looks set to win his first Scottish trophy after coming close to leaving for Ligue 1 side Lille in the summer.
Sky Sports host Jim White, renowned for his Deadline Day coverage, believes both hitmen are well-respected among the top clubs in England.
Speaking to the Sunday Post, White said: “There will be interest from many clubs in the EPL in a number of players in the SPFL.
“I know for sure that Alfredo Morelos and Odsonne Edouard have admirers in the top clubs down here.
“And the likes of (Ryan) Kent, (James) Tavernier and (Ryan) Christie are also on the radar, for sure.
“Leeds United were very keen to get Kent, but Rangers refused to sell.
“They also knocked back £16m from French club, Lille, for Morelos last summer.
“They may well come back in for him, but I’d be surprised if he ended up there.
“The other thing is that with Rangers being on the verge of securing their first league title in a decade, there won’t be many – if any – that will want to leave Ibrox during this window.
“They will want to be around to help their club complete the good work that has already gone into this campaign.
“They will want a winners’ medal, and to be a part of the celebrations.
“That can’t stop clubs being interested in some of the players. But they may well need to wait until the summer to get them.
“However, there will be interest and there will be bids.”
