Speaking on the U Irons Podcast, West Ham journalist Roshane Thomas has shared an interesting update on the Hammers’ stance on buying a striker this month.
Thomas’ co-host made a point about Ajax’s move for Sebastien Haller coming from out of the blue, and West Ham now scrambling for a new striker.
Thomas said that West Ham didn’t anticipate Haller leaving so early this month, and they’re now assessing their options before rushing into a move.
“You’re pretty much on the money with that summary Sam, that is pretty much the case West Ham found themselves in,” Thomas said to his co-host before further clarifying the situation.
“They didn’t anticipate selling Haller so early in the window, hence why now they’re not going to be in a rush to bring in a striker, it remains a priority, but now their stance is ‘listen, we’re going to take our time, we’re going to wait for the right player to become available and then make their move.”

While it’s frustrating to hear that West Ham won’t be going all out to sign a striker as soon as possible, it’s good to hear that they’re taking this more considered approach.
Rushing in and making a panic signing can leave you with a player you quite simply don’t need, just look at the last time West Ham were scrambling for a striker in January when they ended up signing Jordan Hugill.
A striker seems to be coming for West Ham, but we may not see any movement for a number of weeks yet, meaning that Michail Antonio may be relied upon to lead the line on his own for the remainder of this month.
Either way, the Hammers are certainly a team to keep an eye on in this transfer window after being linked to the likes of Krzysztof Piatek and Odsonne Edouard.
