The Sun reported on Sunday that Hitchen, the man behind Luka Modric’s 2008 move to White Hart Lane, was returning for a second spell at Spurs as Paul Mitchell’s replacement.

Pochettino did, however, insist that Hitchen’s role is different to the one held by head of recruitment Mitchell, who tendered his resignation in August and had been serving his notice period.
Hitchen, whose input also led to Luis Suarez’s transfer to Liverpool at the start of the decade, was most recently employed by Championship promotion contenders Derby County.

His Rams spell was short-lived, however, with Hitchen returning to London less than a year after leaving his post as Queens Park Rangers’ head of European recruitment.
