The Brentford star was wanted at Ibrox by Rangers boss Mark Warburton.

Brentford defeated Aston Villa 3-0 last night in the Championship in a ruthless performance at Griffin Park.

Aston Villa, who were fielding a brand-new midfield, were torn apart at times by a brilliant Bees performance.

Plenty of players shone for the home side, but one who certainly shone was Jota.

It was a performance that would have certainly let Rangers fans very jealous.

Rangers were linked with the Brentford man throughout January. The Scottish Sun reported that Gers boss Mark Warburton had been in contact with Brentford about bringing the player to Ibrox in January. The Ibrox boss of course knows Jota from his time at Brentford and was hopeful of bringing him in to the club, as his loan deal at Eibar looked to be coming to an end.

Based on the evidence of last night, Rangers will be very disappointed he is not at Ibrox.

In the end however, Jota never wanted Rangers and is happy to be back at Brentford.

The Bees will hope he continues to play in this manner.
