The Celtic defender is reportedly keen to hold talks today regarding his future with Brendan Rodgers’ side, amid interest from Leicester City and now Southampton.
Southampton are considering a move for Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko, a report on page 50 of Tuesday’s Sun newspaper claims.
Sviatchenko has impressed since joining the Bhoys from FC Midtjylland in January 2016, but recently lost his place to Dedryck Boyata, prompting interest from several clubs south of the border, according to the Scottish Sun.
Celtic’s Erik Sviatchenko
Leicester City were the first to be credited with an interest and it is no surprise to see Southampton follow, given the recent sale of Jose Fonte to West Ham United and an injury to Virgil van Dijk – the last defender they signed from Celtic.

And the Scottish Sun adds that Sviatchenko’s agent is flying in for talks regarding his client’s Parkhead future on Tuesday, with only hours left to finalise a move.
Anderlecht’s Kara Mbodji
According to the Sun, Southampton could also move for Anderlecht centre-back Kara Mbodji, after Leicester saw an improved offer of £9 million rejected.
Report: Pair set for Southampton medicals
However, the Daily Mail reported on Monday that Spartak Moscow’s Serdar Tasci was set for a medical with the Saints ahead of a half-season loan move, which could curtail Claude Puel’s interest in the Celtic and Anderlecht pair.
Should Southampton go for Celtic’s Sviatchenko even if they sign Tasci?
