Oviedo, 26, joined Everton back in the summer of 2012, having hit two goals in 44 games for Danish side FC Copenhagen, and he’s been a dependable backup for the Toffees ever since.

The Costa Rican international has made more than 60 appearances for Everton in almost five years at the club, and he’ll be well remembered by Everton fans for a shock winning goal at Old Trafford against Manchester United in 2013.

Oviedo has largely had to play second-fiddle to Leighton Baines during his time at Goodison Park, and he’s made just seven appearances so far this season.

Now, Oviedo has decided to move on and seek first-team football elsewhere, as he today completed a move to Premier League rivals Sunderland, subsequently reuniting with David Moyes – the manager who signed him for Everton.
With Sunderland left back Patrick van Aanholt joining Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, Oviedo should be in line for plenty of playing time at the Stadium of Light, and fellow Everton misfit Darron Gibson has also followed him to Wearside.
After completing his move earlier today, Oviedo took to Twitter to send a message to Everton fans, stating that he will never forget the memories from his time on Merseyside.

Oviedo added that he was grateful for the ‘great family’ at Goodison Park, and thanked Everton fans for their support throughout his time with the club, as the new chapter of his career begins.
