Sunderland are reportedly interested in Juventus left back Patrice Evra.

According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland have spoken to Juventus defender Patrice Evra about a reunion with David Moyes – but he would want a move to London if he’s to return to England.

Evra, 35, enjoyed a superb spell in England having joined Manchester United from Monaco in January 2006, as he racked up just shy of 400 appearances for the Red Devils in more than eight years at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman’s time with United was trophy-laden to say the least; he won five Premier League titles, two League Cups and the Champions League, whilst becoming a fan favourite during his time with the club.

Evra left United in the summer of 2014 in order to join Juventus, and whilst he was a key player during his first two seasons with the Italian giants, he’s slipped down the pecking order this term.

Evra has subsequently been linked with a move away from Turin, and the Daily Mail report that Sunderland have spoken to him about a move to the Stadium of Light – but that deal looks unlikely right now.

It’s claimed that, with Patrick van Aanholt closing in on a move to Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, Evra was being lined up as a possible replacement at left back, with manager David Moyes pursuing a reunion with Evra having worked with him at Manchester United.

However, it’s not only stated that Marseille are keen to land him, but also that if Evra was to return to England, he would prefer it to be in London, meaning Sunderland are facing a losing battle in their pursuit of the veteran defender.

It’s another transfer blow for Sunderland, who have only been able to land one new signing this month, and that was free agent centre back Joleon Lescott, who has earned a permanent deal with the club.
