Liverpool fans will have their eyes on the Euro 2024 semi-final showdown between England and The Netherlands on Wednesday.

Several Liverpool players are set to feature, with two certain to start – Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk for the Dutch – and Trent Alexander-Arnold is hoping to make an impact again for England.

A place in the final awaits both sides and the chance to make history for their nations.

The record-breaking Lamine Yamal helped Spain beat France in the other Euro 2024 semi-final – and they are probably going to be favourites regardless of who faces them on Sunday in Berlin.

No Upcoming Fixtures

Whilst Euro 2024 takes centre stage, Arne Slot has begun preparations as the new Liverpool manager and you wonder if he has his eyes on anybody.

Van Dijk has been criticised for thinking he is Franz Beckenbauer at Euro 2024, but he has still helped his nation to the last four and is a crucial player for Liverpool.

But with Ibrahima Konate still having injury issues and Joel Matip leaving this summer, you feel some added quality is needed at centre-back for the Reds.

That’s why sources have told HITC that Crystal Palace have a new plan for Marc Guehi amid Liverpool’s interest in the player.

The 23-year-old missed England’s penalty shootout win over Switzerland because he was suspended, but he is expected to come back into the XI for the showdown against the Dutch.

Eberechi Eze knows him better than anyone else and he has lauded his club teammate by stating that he is the ‘hardest’ defender he has faced, alongside Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa.

The ball-carrying playmaker highlighted Guehi’s speed and strength as the reasons why he is difficult to face, as he told England’s Diary Room.

Eberechi Eze hails Liverpool transfer target Marc Guehi

“I’m going to be honest,” said Eze. “I’m going to say Marc Guehi and Ezri Konsa. Strong, fast. Still rippable but they are the hardest ones.”

Marc Guehi and Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool need at least one centre-back for the new season, even if Konate is top dollar on his day and Joe Gomez has got his form back – albeit as a left-back.

There is rising youngster Jarell Quansah, but you can’t put so much pressure on the 21-year-old, especially with Liverpool returning to the Champions League next season.

That’s why the club should push for Guehi because, alongside van Dijk, they could make a formidable partnership and one that would excite the fans.

Guehi is proving with his performances at Euro 2024 that he belongs at the top level because, alongside John Stones, he has been brilliant and perhaps England’s best player.
