Duncan Ferguson says he wishes Everton ‘good luck’ after he was asked about either Marcelo Bielsa or Sean Dyche taking the managerial reigns at the struggling Premier League club, as he told Sky Sports News (26/01/23 at 1:20 pm).

The former Scotland international was himself linked with the Everton manager’s job, but instead, he has landed himself a first gig in management at Forest Green Rovers.

The League One side themselves, just like the Toffees, are in a spot of bother because they are fighting relegation in England’s third-tier, just like those on Merseyside.

Everton are sitting in the Premier League’s drop zone and it seems as though either Marcelo Bielsa or Sean Dyche will become the club’s next manager.

Both are out of jobs after being sacked last season by Leeds United and Burnley, respectively. The latter ended up going down, whilst the former stayed up under Jesse Marsch.

Nonetheless, this is what Ferguson was asked about who could become Everton’s next manager, added with his response.

Sky reporter: “Bielsa has been mentioned as potentially taking over. Would that be a good fit or does the club need someone like a Dyche or an Allardyce, at this moment in time?”

Ferguson responded: “Honestly, I can’t comment. It’s down to the club. They are going to make the decision, as they have done with all the other managers. I wish them well and good luck to them.”

BIG FEW DAYS AHEAD FOR THE CLUB

This call from Farhad Moshiri or whoever decides who will be the next Everton manager could be season-defining for the Merseyside giants.

They have never been relegated during the Premier League era, so if they want to keep that intact, then a man of Dyche’s calibre would fit in perfectly.

The 51-year-old has the experience and pedigree to turn around the sinking ship on Merseyside, but most importantly, bring some much-needed authority to the dressing room.
