Duncan Ferguson would be interested in becoming Everton manager should the job become available in the near future.

That’s according to The Sun, who suggest that a number of managers are eyeing the Everton job as Frank Lampard battles for his future.

Everton are really struggling at the moment and last week’s 4-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion sparked a chorus of boos from supporters.

The Toffees have now claimed just two points from their last six Premier League games.

Lampard needs results to stay at Goodison Park and, whilst it’s never nice to talk about somebody losing their job, others are already being linked.

Ferguson is the latest name mentioned, with the Scot prepared to throw his hat into the ring once again.

Ferguson is described as a ‘long shot’ for the Everton job but he is still interested anyway after caretaker spells in charge.

It just feels like Duncan Ferguson will struggle to land Everton job

‘Big Dunc’ is an Everton legend having excelled in two separate spells with the club as a player, bagging 72 goals in 273 outings for the Toffees.

Ferguson moved into coaching with Everton, first in the academy before moving up to the first-team coaching staff in 2014.

Ferguson had a stint as caretaker manager in 2019, which featured a 3-1 win over Chelsea, before resuming that role after Rafael Benitez’s exit last season.

Once Lampard was appointed, Ferguson left Everton in order to pursue a managerial job elsewhere.

That hasn’t happened just yet despite links to Dundee United earlier this season and Ferguson may still have his eye on the Everton job.

We would love to see Ferguson in that role; there are few people around who love Everton as much as him.

Yet it always feels like Everton are chasing names like Lampard, Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti rather than a Ferguson.

Ferguson may even need to go and prove himself as a manager elsewhere before putting himself back in contention for the Everton job.

You can never say never, but it would be a surprise if Everton made a move for Ferguson soon.
