A number of Championship clubs are reportedly keen to sign Christian Walton from Brighton, and Nottingham Forest should be among them.

Last summer, Nottingham Forest spent the entire transfer window trying and failing to sign a new number one. Countless goalkeepers were linked with the City Ground and, even when Adam Federici did eventually arrive on loan from Bournemouth, he did not stick around for long.

The Australian suffered a serious injury days after joining and left without even making his debut. And, heading into this summer, Forest may once again be forced to enter the transfer market with the club’s goalkeeping situation still unsure.

The Mirror (March 22, page 62) stated in March that Nottingham Forest were keen to keep Watford loanee Costel Pantilimon next season. But the 6ft 8ins Romanian was dropped after a mistake against Ipswich Town and has not played in almost a month.

So it should come as no surprise if it emerged that Forest are one of the Championship teams keen to land Christian Walton from Brighton.

HITC Sport sources are telling us that the Seagulls will loan Walton out again and a number of clubs in the second tier are interested on the back of his sensational spell at Wigan Athletic this season.

The former England U21 ace was arguably the star of the show as Wigan reached the FA Cup quarter-finals, starring against West Ham United, saving a penalty against Southampton and becoming only the fourth goalkeeper in all competitions this season to keep a clean sheet against Manchester City.

In total, Walton has kept 20 clean sheets in 35 games, with his Wigan side a point away from the League One title.

Clearly, the 22-year-old is a goalkeeper of real promise and should be on Forest’s radar this summer.
