HITC Sport understands a host of clubs are chasing Brighton goalkeeper on loan next season.

Brighton & Hove Albion are planning to send highly-rated goalkeeper Christian Walton out on loan again next season with a number of Championship clubs chasing his signature, HITC Sport understands.

Walton joined Wigan on a season-long loan deal last summer and has been instrumental in their success this term in winning promotion back to the Championship

The impressive shot-stopper has battled back from suffering a broken ankle which kept him out of action for three months to establish himself as first-choice goalkeeper at the DW Stadium.

Walton has kept a superb 20 clean sheets in 35 games in all competitions and along with fellow goalkeeper Jamie Jones, the two of them combined have broken the club’s record for clean sheets in season with 26 beating the previous record of 25 held by John Filan from 2002/03 season.

The former England Under-21 international also helped Wigan claim a hat-trick of Premier League scalps in the FA Cup against Bournemouth, West Ham and Manchester City, becoming only the fourth goalkeeper this season to keep a clean sheet against Premier League champions Manchester City.

Walton also scooped the man-of-the-match award in the FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Southampton with the giant keeper producing a superb penalty save from Manolo Gabbiadini.

Walton is due to return to Brighton this summer at the end of his spell at Wigan, but the Seagulls have indicated they are ready to send the keeper out on loan so that he can continue his development with regular first-team football.

Wigan would love to sign Walton again for next season, but a number of other Championship clubs are weighing up a move for the keeper following his impressive form on loan with the Latics.
