Premier League giants Everton turned down the chance to get rid of Morgan Schneiderlin and sign Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic in return.

Everton have been big fans of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic for quite a while now.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported in the summer of 2016 that the Toffees had expressed an interest in the dynamic enforcer after he impressed for Croatia at that summer’s European championships.

And Gazzetta dello Sport even reported as recently as June 21 that Everton had made a £15.7 million offer to lure Brozovic to Goodison Park. But, when they Merseyside giants did have the chance to finally get their hands on the former Dinamo Zagreb prospect, they turned the deal down.

As reported by Calciomercato, Everton were offered the chance to sign Brozovic as part of a swap deal that would have taken Morgan Schneiderlin to Inter. It is understood, however, that manager Sam Allardyce wanted to keep their French midfielder and refused to include him as part of the deal.

Just a week after the winter window slammed shut, however, that is already looking like a questionable decision.

Because Schneiderlin was simply awful as Everton were ripped to shreds by a rampant Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday night. He was a mere passenger as Aaron Ramsey and Henrikh Mkhitaryan tore through a defence he was supposed to be protecting.

Everton fans were furious at the time when the news broke that Allardyce had rejected the chance to swap Schneiderlin for Brozovic, and that Arsenal humiliation simply highlights just what a bad call that could turn out to be with their £24 million flop performing well below expectations.

Allardyce is already under mounting pressure at Everton and this decision does him no favours.
