Earlier today, Wolves offered Aston Villa target Jason Denayer a three-year contract, and that decision could now see Rob Holding leave Arsenal.

What’s the story?

Well, after new arrival Diego Carlos suffered a serious injury, Steven Gerrard is back in the market for a new centre-back.

It was said that Denayer and Holding were the two names on Aston Villa’s shortlist as we approach the deadline on Thursday, and the latter could be sold by Mikel Arteta given his lack of action so far this season.

The £80,000-a-week man didn’t play a single second of football as Arsenal recorded wins over Crystal Palace, Leicester and Bournemouth at the start of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

Holding was given just one minute in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Fulham, but with William Saliba, Ben White, Gabriel Magalhaes and Takehiro Tomiyasu – who can play on the right or in the middle – ahead of him, an exit may be on.

So, if Denayer accepts the contract offer from Wolves, it would leave Holding as the other remaining option on Gerrard’s shortlist – therefore, a move to Villa Park may beckon for the Englishman.

Forget Wolves – Rob Holding should ask to leave Arsenal for Aston Villa

In our view, Holding should ask Arteta to let him join the Villans.

The 26-year-old is a solid defender, who is good enough to be starting in the Premier League rather than warming the bench on a weekly basis.

Holding came close to joining Newcastle in 2020 before Arteta cancelled the deal, but now, the Spaniard should make amends for that by allowing him a move to the Midlands.

At Villa Park, Holding has a great chance to put his name up in lights, and he should have no issues settling in seeing as his good friend Calum Chambers is already there.

Chambers has already admitted that Holding is “great to play alongside” – keep an eye on this situation, as we wouldn’t be surprised to see the pair reunited before the transfer window closes.
