Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner has raved about his teammate Rob Holding in The Athletic and has explained how the English defender has been helping him.

Turner officially moved to Arsenal from Major League Soccer club, the New England Revolution, in the summer of 2022 for £5.75 million (The Daily Mail).

The 28-year-old USA international goalkeeper has been training with his new Arsenal teammates.

Turner has praised Holding, who joined Arsenal from Bolton Wanderers in the summer of 2016 for £2 million (BBC Sport), for helping him settle into life at Arsenal and has been really impressed by the 26-year-old English defender, who earns £80,000 per week as salary (The Daily Mail).

The American told The Athletic: “Rob might as well be American anyway. He’s been huge for me.

“I remember walking down the aisle of the bus and Rob said, ‘Hey Matty, just sit right here!’. Rob, Kieran Tierney, Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White have been the guys I’ve probably hung out with most now.

“I don’t have a car yet in England, so Rob drove me to and from training when we were back at Colney. It’s really nice to get into a little bit of a groove and a group.”

Encouraging

In our view, it is encouraging to hear how Rob Holding is helping Matt Turner settle into life at Arsenal.

Holding is a senior figure at the Gunners and has been at the North London club since 2016.

Like Turner, the 26-year-old will be a back-up at Arsenal, and it seems that there is squad harmony.

Holding made nine starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal last season, scoring one goal in the process.
