According to the Express and Star, Wolves have offered Aston Villa target Jason Denayer a contract.

What’s the story?

Well, Bruno Lage is keen to bring another defender to Molineux ahead of the September 1st deadline, and he has decided to pursue the Belgium international – who is on the shortlist of Steven Gerrard.

Aston Villa have been in the market for another centre-back after losing new arrival Diego Carlos to a serious injury, with Arsenal defender Rob Holding another option being considered.

The Express and Star believe Wolves have offered Denayer a three-year contract following his departure from Lyon in July, where he made 139 appearances across a four-year spell.

He helped Lyon reach the Europa League quarter-final last season, where they were knocked out by West Ham.

Denayer made 21 appearances in all competitions last term – scoring three goals – although he was left out of the final seven matchday squads in Ligue 1 as he stalled over a new contract.

Wolves could beat Aston Villa to a bargain

If Denayer accepts the contract offer from Wolves, it would see a very experienced player arrive at Molineux, and all for £0m – in regards to a transfer fee, of course.

The Belgian has won 35 caps for his country – an impressive feat considering he must compete with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and, previously, Vincent Kompany for a place in the starting XI.

Denayer has appeared at a European Championship for Belgium, and is familiar with the British game having spent time at Manchester City as well as Celtic.

At the age of 27, he is also right in the midst of his prime, which means he should be able to make an instant impact for Wolves should he end up at Molineux.

Keep an eye on this situation, as we are yet to see if Denayer has accepted the terms on offer from Wolves.
