Only 12 months ago, Newcastle United and Eddie Howe were celebrating making a return to the Champions League.
Understandably so, everyone associated with Newcastle was on cloud nine and they were hoping this was the start of an incredible journey.
Fast forward to the present and they have hit a massive bump, with the team now preparing for the new Premier League campaign where they won’t be playing midweek matches.
It is well-documented that Newcastle have the richest owners in the Premier League, even when they were in the Champions League, they couldn’t spend as freely as they would have wanted because of the rules in place.
So, you can imagine that life has become even more difficult now that they aren’t in Europe, with the summer transfer window proving to be a tricky one, so far – sources have told HITC how Jarrad Bowen feels about moving to Newcastle.
Euro 2024 and Copa America recently concluded, so that probably slowed down business for many teams and you expect it to pick up now.
But it will be interesting to see what road the Magpies go down because one of their latest transfer calls has left Dean Saunders stunned.
The former striker was told that Newcastle are looking to move on Kieran Trippier this summer, with interest from Turkey, Italy and possibly Germany.
The 33-year-old arrived from Atletico Madrid in the 2022 January transfer window, pushed the team away from danger and then guided them to Europe’s elite competition.
The former Tottenham man was part of the England squad that reached the final of Euro 2024 – Ian Wright explained during Euro 2024 why Trippier should have been axed.
Added to that, his form for parts of the last campaign wasn’t great, but Saunders is still surprised he could be let go because he thought the right-back was ‘well thought of’, as he told talkSPORT (23/07/24 at 9:40 am).
Kieran Trippier to leave Newcastle United?
“That’s a bit strange,” said Saunders about Trippier possibly leaving. “The Bayern Munich thing I thought was a bit strange when it came up (in January).
“Why are they trying to get rid of him, then? I thought he was well thought of.”

Newcastle United next season
The fans will be hoping they make a return to Europe, but their issue is that there are many, many teams now in a position to fight for those spots.
The fact that Newcastle won’t be in Europe will help because injuries hurt them badly last season, as well as key players staying on board.

Sources have told HITC that Howe has told Newcastle to hand new contracts to Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.
There was all that Liverpool talk, with sources telling HITC that Newcastle demanded a player in return if Gordon moved to Liverpool, but they will be glad that he won’t be going anywhere any time soon.
