David Beckham has joined the long list of celebrities to celebrate Lionel Messi’s match-winning performance for Argentina.

Messi scored a hat-trick against Algeria in Argentina’s first group-stage game of the 2026 World Cup.

His second goal was a tap-in, but his first and third goals were vintage Messi, even though he turns 39 years old next week.

Beckham took to social media to praise the Argentine, who has played for his MLS club, Inter Miami, for the last three years.

What David Beckham said after Lionel Messi’s latest World Cup masterclass

Although Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Maradona, and Pele have their supporters, most people agree that Messi is the greatest.

His incredible performance at the 2022 World Cup, which Argentina won, cemented his place at the pinnacle of football history.

Now, at 38 years old, few were expecting Messi to have the biggest impact on the 2026 World Cup.

Well, his hat-trick against Algeria proved to the world that he remains one of, if not the best, footballers on the planet.

Beckham first congratulated Messi for making his 200th appearance for Argentina—a national record.

“Congratulations, my friend. Amazing achievement,” the England legend posted about Messi on his Instagram story.

Beckham then called Messi “the GOAT” in another post after his masterful hat-trick against Algeria.

The pair have long had a close relationship, which led Messi to join Beckham’s club Inter Miami in 2023.

And given how well the ex-Barcelona star has played for them, Beckham probably likes him even more now.
