Tottenham Hotspur have completed the transfer of Dominic Solanke and Ange Postecoglou has finally got his man.
The 26-year-old scored 19 Premier League goals for Bournemouth last season and now he has big shoes to fill at Hotspur Way.
Harry Kane has shared his verdict on Tottenham signing Solanke, with the new recruit effectively replacing the England captain after he left last summer for Bayern Munich.
Spurs have paid a club-record transfer of £65 million for Solanke’s talents and it has raised a debate or two.
Given the amount of money they have put on the table for the player, could Postecoglou and Co have gone for somebody else?
It feels like every transfer window, teams across the Premier League are looking for that all-out number nine and Tottenham have been no different.
As a result, names left, right and centre have been tipped to join the club. From Sporting Lisbon’s Victor Gyokeres, Brentford’s ‘proper’ striker Ivan Toney and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
Darren Bent acknowledged and praised Solanke’s rise and how he was ‘unbelievable’ for Bournemouth last season.
But the former Tottenham striker thinks Postecoglou had a better option to go for and someone who suited them much better.
Bent put forward the name of Toney and how the Brentford forward provides ‘more’ than his fellow countryman, as he told talkSPORT.
Even though Toney only scored four league goals last term, after returning from a betting ban, he was still selected to be part of England’s Euro 2024 squad ahead of Solanke.
Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke
“I almost feel like now that Solanke has found himself at the Premier League level,” said Bent. “Under this Ange football, it will be interesting to see what a proper centre-forward could do
“It’s actually quite similar (their age). I just think looking at the stats sheet and the way Toney plays and the way Solanke plays. I just feel maybe you know you are getting more with Toney. I know Solanke has had an unbelievable season – I just think you know what you are getting with Ivan Toney.
“His last three seasons. He has four goals last season, but we know he had the ban. He scored 20 the year before that and 12 when he first got to the Premier League. You need someone up there who will score you goals and is comfortable with their back to play and can bring others into play. Also, someone who has that arrogance to go ‘I am here now. I am the main man. I can score the goals’. Not somebody who can shrink a little bit and I think Ivan Toney could do that.”

Dominic Solanke is ready right now
Solanke started his career at Stamford Bridge, before a brief spell at Liverpool that didn’t go well at all.
The early part of his career was a struggle, but at the right time, he is now scoring the goals and showing what he is all about.

Solanke has already praised James Maddison and Son Heung-min, as you feel those two players will be crucial to the player hitting 20+ league goals this term.
One thing is for sure, fans should get excited now because on top of Tottenham securing the transfer of Archie Gray from Leeds United, their window has been very good so far and more incomings are expected.
