Back in January, Crystal Palace expressed an interest in bringing Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa back to the Premier League.
The Eagles were said to be planning for life without Conor Gallagher, and had identified the Cameroon international as a potential signing.
Now, however, Patrick Vieira has officially missed out on the 26-year-old, as Napoli have beaten the south Londoners to his signature.
What’s the story?
Well, Anguissa has spent the season on loan at Napoli from Fulham, where he has enjoyed an impressive campaign under Luciano Spalletti.
The towering midfielder – who has actually been compared to Vieira – has made 32 appearances in all competitions, providing two assists.
Aurelio De Laurentiis – President of Napoli – has already confirmed the signing of Anguissa, in a deal said to be worth €15m (£13m) according to Fabrizio Romano.

As quoted by Tutto Mercato Web, De Laurentiis said: “Anguissa will definitely stay here.”
So, Crystal Palace have officially missed out on the man who spent last season at Fulham with Joachim Andersen – for now, at least.
Patrick Vieira has alternatives for Crystal Palace
Fear not, Crystal Palace fans – Vieira and Dougie Freedman have other options up their sleeve.
One man who seems set to arrive at Selhurst Park this summer is RC Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure.
A £15m move is believed to be close, and it means Aston Villa have missed out on the Malian, who Steven Gerrard was keen to sign.

Doucoure also came close to joining Tottenham, although his move to N17 was blocked before he continued to impress in France.
So far this season, the 22-year-old has made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal while also providing four assists.
So, while some at Selhurst Park may be upset about losing out on Anguissa to Napoli, their pain should be eased by the imminent arrival of Doucoure.
