Coco Gauff’s Wimbledon campaign came to a disappointing end after she missed a match point in semi-final defeat to Karolina Muchova.

Gauff fought back from a set down to take the match to a deciding set tie-break. But on match point, she dumped a simple winner into the net, something that allowed Karolina Muchova to reach her first Wimbledon final.

But instead of dwelling on the loss, Gauff is taking inspiration from two of tennis’ biggest names – Roger Federer and Jannik Sinner, players who both suffered similar heartbreak before bouncing back.

In a post match conference following her semi-final defeat, Gauff maintained a positive outlook and mentioned that overall it was a positive tournament for her.

“It is moments like these you learn from, I don’t have any regrets. Obviously, I want to make better decisions, but that’s how you become a better player”, Gauff said.

The 2025 French Open champion admitted it was a painful loss but pointed to Federer and Sinner as examples that even the greatest players have to go through this in their careers.

“I look at… Roger lost match points here. Jannik obviously at Roland Garros. So every great champion has this happen in their career. Maybe, this is something I need to be on their level.”

Federer had two championship points slip away against Novak Djokovic in the 2019 Wimbledon final, eventually losing the match in five sets.

Jannik Sinner also suffered a similar heartbreak last year when he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2025 French Open final after failing to convert three championship points.

The Hard Court season to look forward to

Even though her Wimbledon campaign ended with a disappointing loss, Gauff still has plenty to look forward to for the remainder of the season.

The hard-court swing includes two WTA 1000 events in Montreal and Cincinnati, before we head to the year’s final Grand Slam at the US Open.

Gauff will have a chance at redemption on home soil, which also happens to be her first Grand Slam title.
