Chris Sutton says Celtic’s major test should be to hold on to their star players.

Former Celtic player and now turned football pundit, Chris Sutton, says that Celtic should hold on to their star players in the summer transfer window.
The Bhoys have enjoyed a memorable 2016/17 campaign where they earned a domestic treble while remaining unbeaten throughout. It’s a great achievement and now Brendan Rodgers should be looking to take his team to the next level.
Sutton says Celtic are facing a major dilemma heading into the summer transfer window. On one hand, they need their star players to build on a foundation, while on the other hand, the club will find it hard to resist if tempting offers are dangled at them.
Celtic – Brendan Rodgers Press Conference
Earlier this week, the Daily Record reported that Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund are preparing moves to sign Moussa Dembele. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a superb debut campaign where he scored 32 goals in all competitions, and has drawn worldwide attention.
Rodgers has said that Celtic are not a selling club, but Sutton is confident that the Hoops will be tested this summer. If big European clubs come up with offers in the region of £30 million, the club will find it hard to ignore.
Another player who is in demand is Kieran Tierney. The young full-back is one of the brightest prospects emerging from Scotland, and several Premier League clubs have already registered their interest.
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele shoots at goal
Sutton says that Celtic will need “immense resolve” to hang on to their star players. He suggests that it is absolutely vital for the club to stand firm and build on the tremendous season they’ve had.
“Brendan Rodgers has already said that Celtic aren’t a selling club but I’ve no doubt they’ll be tested this summer. If bids in the region of £30million are landing on Peter Lawwell’s desk that’s hard to ignore,” wrote Sutton in his column for The Daily Record.
“Dembele won’t be the only one I expect to attract attention. Kieran Tierney is one of the brightest prospects Scottish football has seen in years and hanging on to these players will require immense resolve.
“But it’s vital they stand firm now if they are to build on the tremendous season they’ve had.”
