According to the Manchester Evening News, Tottenham Hotspur have ‘intensified their interest’ in signing Celtic left back Kieran Tierney – but he fancies a move to Manchester United.

Spurs, who are currently challenging London rivals Chelsea for the Premier League title, have two impressive left backs in their ranks already, with Danny Rose and Ben Davies offering great options in that position.

Davies may not offer the same pace and attacking ability that Rose does, but Spurs have two of the top left backs in the Premier League – yet they’re being linked with another.

The Manchester Evening News report that Tottenham have intensified their interest in landing Celtic starlet Kieran Tierney this summer, in a move that has ramifications for both Manchester clubs.

It’s stated that Tottenham are concerned about a possible summer bid from Manchester City for Rose, meaning that they have lined up Tierney as a potential replacement, but the player himself allegedly prefers a move to Manchester United.

The Red Devils may be in the market for another left back given that both Daley Blind and Luke Shaw appear to be out of favour under Jose Mourinho, whilst the United boss may want better balance than using the right-footed Matteo Darmian at left back, putting Tierney in the frame.

Tierney, 19, has come up through the ranks at Celtic Park, and has made 69 first-team appearances for the Bhoys, whilst also notching three caps for Scotland, becoming one of the top young left backs in Europe.

Tierney fits the bill for Spurs; young, talented, full of potential and with the prospect of a huge profit in the future, but Rose leaving for Manchester City seems unlikely this summer, and another left back really isn’t a necessity for Tottenham right now.

Keeping Tierney on the radar in case Rose or even Davies leave the club is smart for Spurs, and whilst they may risk missing out on him if they don’t move this summer, there are other areas of the team that need attention, with Spurs currently well-stocked at left back.
