Chris Sutton said on BT Sport 1 (3:07pm, February 13, 2021) that Leeds United and Arsenal-linked Emiliano Buendia is the best player in the Championship.

Sutton, who works as a pundit for BBC Sport and BT Sport, made the comments while watching Buendia in action for Norwich City against Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

The former Norwich striker was not pleased to see the 24-year-old attacking midfielder fail to score from an early chance, although the Canaries did go on to win the Championship match 4-1.

The Argentine did make amends for his earlier miss, providing an assist and finding the back of the net in the 64th minute.

The Independent reported in August 2020 that Leeds were interested in signing Buendia in the summer of 2020, with The Athletic reported last month that the Whites’ director of football Victor Orta has liked him for several years.

Mundo Deportivo reported in January 2021 that the agent of the Norwich star plans to hold talks with Arsenal over a potential move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2021.

Sutton said on BT Sport 1 (3:07pm, February 13, 2021): “Buendia, who is the best player in the Championship, I think, talk of him going to Arsenal in January, misses an open goal.”

Arsenal or Leeds United move in the summer?

Buendia has played in the Premier League with Norwich, and the 24-year-old would be a good signing for Arsenal or Leeds.

Martin Odegaard is only on loan at the Gunners, and it remains to be seen how the Real Madrid-owned attacking midfielder does in the coming weeks and months.

Pablo Hernandez is not getting any younger, and Buendia would be a good replacement for the Spaniard.

According to WhoScored, Buendia has scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 23 Championship games for Norwich so far this season.
