Chelsea are not having a great season, and a big reason behind this is that head coach Mauricio Pochettino does not have a world-class striker in his squad.
While Nicolas Jackson has shown a lot of promise, he is only 22, and I do not think that he is at the level to lead Chelsea to glory at the moment.
The young striker has scored 12 goals and given four assists in 32 matches in all seasons for the London club this season.
I have no doubt that Jackson will improve and get better in the coming years, but if Chelsea are to genuinely challenge for the Premier League top four and perhaps even push for the title next season, then they need a world-class striker.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly probably knows that as well, which is perhaps why the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are keeping tabs on Inter Milan and Argentina international striker Lautaro Martinez.

HITC reported this week that Chelsea have an interest in Martinez. The Premier League club are keen on signing a new striker in the summer transfer window and have their eyes on Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
But, if Chelsea failed to bring Osimhen to Stamford Bridge, then they could make a move for Martinez. Inter, though, are confident that the 26-year-old will sign a new contract and stay with them.
Former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher is a huge fan of Martinez and thinks that he is among the best strikers in the world.

“I mean he is a top-class striker. He didn’t have the best World Cup. I must say, I was disappointed with him in the tournament. Gets his winner’s medal out of it.
“But had a great role last season. We saw that with Inter getting to the Champions League final. I still think he is one of the top strikers in European football. No doubt about that.
“I think, right now, Inter are pretty lucky to have him. How long that stays for, I am not too sure because I do think he is going right to the peak of his career right now.”
I think these previous comments will surely encourage the Chelsea faithful. Carragher is one of the best football analysts and one of the most knowledgeable pundits around.
Martinez won the 2022 Qatar World Cup and recently broke the 100-goal barrier in Serie A.
He is a goal machine and is very consistent. The striker has scored 26 goals and given five assists in 37 matches in all competitions this season.
Martinez scored 28 goals and provided 11 assists in 57 appearances last season, while in 2021-22, the Argentine star scored 25 goals and gave four assists in 49 matches in all competitions.
