Gabriel Jesus is not a prolific goalscorer and has also had injury issues lately, but that has not stopped Arsenal from banging in the goals for fun in the Premier League.

Arsenal have scored four goals past Newcastle United, five past Burnley, six past West Ham United and three past Liverpool recently. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been impressed.

If Arsenal beat Liverpool and Manchester City to the Premier League title this season, then it will be despite not having a top-quality number nine/world-class goalscorer. Liverpool have Mohamed Salah, while Manchester City have Erling Haaland.

Arsenal do need to sign a top-quality striker in the summer transfer window if they are to compete for major trophies in the coming years.

Arsenal linked with Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez

One of the strikers Arsenal have been linked with is Lautaro Martinez. CBS Sports reported in December 2023 that the Gunners have Martinez on their radar.

The report noted that Arsenal were aware that they would not be able to get Martinez in the January transfer window. After all, he is part of an Inter Milan team who are aiming to win the Serie A title this season.

But, the Gunners are interested in Martinez, and anything is possible in the summer transfer window. I believe that Martinez would be a very good signing for Arsenal. He was described as “perfect” by former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves on BT Sport 1 (2:27pm, December 13, 2021).

Lautaro Martinez starring for Inter Milan

The 26-year-old Argentina international striker has been on the books of Inter since 2018 and has established himself as one of the best players in Serie A.

The striker has scored 22 goals and given two assists in 22 starts and one substitute appearance in Serie A for Inter this season.

Two of the goals for Martinez came in Inter’s 4-0 win against Lecce away from home in Serie A this past Sunday.

The striker found the back of the net first in the 15th minute and then in the 56th minute.

As BBC Sport has noted, they were Martinez’s 100th and 101st Serie A goals. Inter are at the top of the Serie A table at the moment with 66 points from 25 matches. Juventus are second with 57 points from 26 games.
