Jamie Carragher thinks one-time Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Lautaro Martinez will still leave Inter.
The Liverpool legend labelled the World Cup winner as ‘one of the top strikers in European football’ and he feels Inter are ‘lucky’ to have him, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (04/10/23 at 7:40 pm).
When Antonio Conte was at Tottenham, given that he worked with Lautaro Martinez at the San Siro, there was talk that Spurs wanted to bring him to London, in order to keep their manager ‘happy’.
At the end of the day, nothing seemed to keep Antonio Conte happy, as the Spurs fans are the overjoyed ones now with Ange Postecoglou in charge.
The new Tottenham boss has added to his forward line this summer, but you could argue, in the coming transfer windows, as more changes are made, more quality will be needed.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see if they revisit their interest in Lautaro Martinez because he is smashing it.

’Top-class’ Martinez
“Huge fan,” said Carragher. “He has made a massive impact at the weekend by coming off the bench and scoring four goals.
“I mean he is a top-class striker. He didn’t have the best World Cup. I must say, I was disappointed with him in the tournament. Gets his winner’s medal out of it.
“But had a great role last season. We saw that with Inter getting to the Champions League final. I still think he is one of the top strikers in European football. No doubt about that.
“I think, right now, Inter are pretty lucky to have him. How long that stays for, I am not too sure because I do think he is going right to the peak of his career right now.”

Tottenham’s forward line
Spurs missed out on Europe this season, so it meant that they couldn’t push the boat out as they would have liked in the summer.
But as of this moment, they are showing signs that they can return to the Champions League.
If that happens, then they can perhaps show ambition to sign players like Martinez, who has ten goals in nine matches in all competitions this season, including nine in seven in Serie A.
