Chelsea have reportedly made contact to sign Napoli captain Kalidou Koulibaly, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar this summer as well as FC Barcelona and Juventus.
According to Sky Italia via GIFN, Thomas Tuchel’s side have made the first steps in trying to bring the Senegal international to west London, with Koulibaly expected to leave Napoli this summer in what will be a huge departure for the Italian side, with Tottenham also reportedly interested in signing the defender.
Hailed once by Carlo Ancelotti as ‘the best in the world’ in his position, Koulibaly is yet to sign a new contract with Napoli which is set to expire in 2023, and this has tempted the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham to attempt a move for the Serie A superstar.
Both London clubs are interested in bringing the 31-year-old defender to the Premier League this summer, and if rumours are to be believed, Koulibaly is ready to leave Napoli in the coming weeks for a new adventure in football, with England a likely destination for the centre-back.
Whilst Chelsea and Tottenham are both looking at signing defenders this summer, the Blues could have the advantage when it comes to landing Koulibaly, with the Blues having an obvious need for new centre-backs with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both leaving Stamford Bridge earlier in the transfer window.
Indeed, whilst Tottenham are looking for another centre-back to pair Cristian Romero and Eric Dier in the defence, Koulibaly could be more tempted by the prospect of playing for Chelsea, especially for the fact that Thomas Tuchel has a strong record of improving defenders.
Chelsea could beat Tottenham to Koulibaly signing in the next few weeks

With Chelsea making contact to sign Koulibaly, Tottenham could lose some significant footing in the race to sign the defender unless Antonio Conte’s side make moves in the coming days to overtake their English rivals, who now look like the favourites to land the Senegal star.
The Napoli titan has proven to be one of the best centre-backs in Europe for some time, and this summer could finally see Koulibaly bring his talents to the Premier League, with Chelsea seemingly set to beat Tottenham tot he defender’s signature.
