Liam Scales fancies leaving Celtic this summer with Aberdeen interested in offering the defender an escape route from Parkhead.

Scales only joined Celtic last summer as he made the move from Irish side Shamrock Rovers to Glasgow.

Celtic paid just £500,000 to bring Scales to Scotland and he allegedly rejected a late bid from Southampton in favour of the Bhoys.

Shamrock Rovers fans were absolutely convinced that Scales would become a star at Celtic.

Sadly for the defender, he hasn’t quite been able to nail down a first-team role under Ange Postecoglou despite his versatility.

Liam Scales fancies leaving Celtic, Aberdeen interested

Scales has only made 13 appearances for Celtic in all competitions, but did record two goals and two assists.

A left-sided centre back or even left back, Scales seems to have potential but is stuck down the Celtic pecking order.

The Daily Record now claim that Scales would be interested in leaving Celtic this summer with Aberdeen now interested.

It’s stated that Aberdeen will now ramp up their interest in signing Scales this week having been linked with a move in recent days.

Manager Jim Goodwin – an Irishman just like Scales – is understood to be a long-term admirer of the Celtic defender.

That’s perfect for Scales, who really needs first-team football and a manager who firmly believes in him after his stint at Celtic.

It’s unclear whether this move would be permanent or a loan deal as things stand, as Celtic will likely want their £500,000 back.

That would be a considerable outlay for Aberdeen and a demand that may just scare them off.

A loan to get Scales playing regularly and ultimately into the shop window seems to make the most sense, but the ball will be in Celtic’s court as the defender eyes a move away.
