Can Pedro Porro play in the Champions League for Tottenham? Many Spurs fans have asked this on Google as Antonio Conte targets the Spaniard.
The north Londoners have already made a £33m bid for the Spain international – according to Fabrizio Romano – with negotiations between Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon ongoing.
Sporting Lisbon are even said to be planning a move for Milan van Ewijk as a replacement for their right-back as speculation over a move to Spurs intensifies, as detailed by the Daily Mail.
So, can Porro play in the Champions League for Tottenham if a deal goes through? Let’s take a look…
Pedro Porro Champions League eligibility for Tottenham explored
Well, many are wondering if Porro will be cup-tied for the Champions League Round of 16 if he joins Tottenham.
The 23-year-old has already appeared in the competition for Sporting Lisbon this season, making five appearances for the Portuguese giants in Group D including two outings against Spurs, winning 2-0 and then drawing 1-1 in north London.
Despite those five Champions League appearances for Sporting Lisbon, Porro can play in the Champions League for Tottenham this season if a deal goes through.

UEFA’s official website states: “As of the round of 16, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 2nd February 2023 at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.
“Any or all of the players from the above quota of three may have been fielded for another club in the qualifying phase, play-offs or group stage of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Europa Conference League.”
Therefore, as long as the paperwork is submitted by Thursday 2nd February, Porro can play for Tottenham in the Champions League.
Spurs face a trip to AC Milan on Tuesday 14th February in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash, before welcoming the Italian giants to N17 for the second leg on Wednesday 8th March.
If Porro does join in time to play in these fixtures, it would boost Conte’s chances of reaching the quarter-final significantly.
The Sporting Lisbon No.24 has been sensational so far this season, scoring three goals while also providing 11 assists in 24 appearances at right-back.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon continue to hold talks over Porro.
