Can Moises Caicedo play in the Europa League for Arsenal? Many fans have asked on Google after a £60m bid was made.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have made a significant offer for the Brighton No.25 amid fears that Mohamed Elneny could miss the remainder of the season through injury.

Chelsea have already seen a £55m bid rejected for the Ecuador international, and The Athletic have now revealed that Arsenal’s offer has also been rebuffed, but interest remains.

If the deal does go through, supporters are keen to know if the South American can play European football for the Gunners this term.

So, can Caicedo play in the Europa League for Arsenal this season? Let’s take a look…

Moises Caicedo Europa League eligibility for Arsenal explored

Well, Arsenal have a great chance of winning the Europa League this season, and Mikel Arteta will want any new signings made this month to play a part.

The Gunners do not have to deal with the Round of 32 phase after winning Group A comfortably, and are yet to discover who they face in the Round of 16.

If a deal for Caicedo goes through, he is allowed to play in the Europa League despite the fact he played no part in Arsenal reaching the knockout stages.

UEFA’s official website states: “As of the round of 16, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 2nd February 2023 at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.

“Any or all of the players from the above quota of three may have been fielded for another club in the qualifying phase, play-offs or group stage of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Europa Conference League.”

So far this month, Arsenal have signed Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior, so Caicedo would be the third and final new player Arteta is allowed to register for the Europa League based on UEFA’s rules.

Any more new signings made by the Spaniard and Edu, therefore, may have to sit out, with Arsenal unable to register four new players for the Europa League this season.
