Edin Terzic has taken his name out of the race to be the next Tottenham Hotspur manager after Borussia Dortmund named him as their new Technical Director.

The Bundesliga outfit announced on Tuesday that Terzic has signed a four-year contract to accept a back-office role. He was previously an assistant to Lucien Favre at the club before taking over as interim head coach last season.

But Dortmund have since hired Marco Rose as their new manager, joining from Borussia Monchengladbach. Terzic now takes a step back from the day-to-day running of the side to help plan the Westfalenstadion outfit’s future.

Terzic will be responsible for squad planning, handling transfers, tracking the progress of those out on loan and the academy. But the 38-year-old could have remained a manager, having been targeted to replace Jose Mourinho in north London.

Tottenham were interested in appointing Terzic as their next manager last month, per Bild. The German publication also cited attention from Crystal Palace and Newcastle United. Yet the inexperienced gaffer is delighted to remain at Borussia Dortmund.

“I can hardly wait to begin,” he told BVB’s official website. “It was always Marco’s wish that I should become part of his coaching team. He made me feel that at all times. I, in turn, always let him participate in my considerations. I think Marco sensed that this step was not easy for me. But he understood and accepted the desire to fill this new position.”

Terzic deals Levy another Tottenham manager blow

Terzic taking himself out of the running to become the new Tottenham manager has dealt Daniel Levy yet another blow. The Spurs Chairman’s search for Mourinho’s successor has rolled on for two months and is no nearer to an end.

Plans for Antonio Conte fell through, Spurs called off hiring Paulo Fonseca and pulled the plug on Gennaro Gattuso. Mauricio Pochettino could still be an option if Paris Saint-Germain replace the Argentine with Zinedine Zidane.

But Levy would have surely liked Tottenham to have ended their search and Terzic would have been an interesting option. While inexperienced, he did well while in charge of Borussia Dortmund with 20 wins in 32 games at the helm.

His BVB side also scored 74 goals, rallied to qualify for the Champions League and won the DFB Pokal. The German’s attacking and fresh ideas could have been welcome at Tottenham, but Terzic has dealt Levy yet another blow.
