Can Danjuma play in the Champions League for Tottenham? Many have asked on Google after Spurs signed the Dutchman on loan from Villarreal.

The north Londoners have agreed to sign the Netherlands international on a deal running until the end of the season, where they will then have the option to buy him on a permanent basis.

In the first half of the campaign, the 25-year-old played for Villarreal in the UEFA Europa Conference League, leaving many to wonder if he is eligible to play for Spurs in another UEFA competition in the same season.

So, can Danjuma play in the Champions League for Tottenham? Let’s take a look…

Well, Danjuma made five appearances in the UEFA Europa Conference League earlier this season.

The Tottenham new boy scored two goals in those five outings.

Despite his involvements in those fixtures, Danjuma can play for Tottenham in the Champions League this season.

UEFA’s official website states: “As of the round of 16, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 2nd February 2023 at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.

“Any or all of the players from the above quota of three may have been fielded for another club in the qualifying phase, play-offs or group stage of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Europa Conference League.”

That will come as a significant boost to Antonio Conte, as the Italian must navigate his Tottenham side through a very tricky Round of 16 tie.

Spurs go up against AC Milan in the first knockout phase of the Champions League, with the first leg commencing on Tuesday 14th February at the San Siro.

While the reigning champions of Italy will pose a stern test, Danjuma should be able to help out.

The Dutchman impressively scored six goals in 11 Champions League appearances last season as he helped Villarreal reach the semi-finals under Unai Emery, including vital strikes against Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Hopefully, Danjuma can go one step further this term and guide Tottenham to what would be just their second ever Champions League final.
