Sean Dyche’s Burnley plan to reunite Maxwel Cornet with former Lyon team-mate Tino Kadewere even with their Premier League status up in the air, as reported by The Sun (13 February, page 61).

Cornet, Kadewere and Wout Weghorst. Now that’s a front three capable of gracing the top half of the Premier League.

Whether Burnley are still a top-flight team by the time the transfer window opens again this summer, however, is anyone’s guess.

The Clarets have been much improved in their last two games. But they’ve still picked up just one point in that time, albeit against Manchester United and Liverpool.

Norwich City have won more league games since January 15th than Burnley have since August.

The arrival of Weghorst – one of the finest goalscorers in the Bundesliga and a massive upgrade on Chris Wood – has given Burnley fans reason for optimism at least.

As has the return of Cornet, by far and away their finest player this season, from the African Cup of Nations.

Will Burnley sign Tino Kadewere?

Try as they might, Burnley did not manage to get another new forward over the line in January however. A deal for Croatia international Mislav Orsic fell apart at the eleventh hour.

And, according to The Sun, the Clarets couldn’t seal Kadewere’s signature either.

Burnley are planning to return for the 26-year-old Zimbabwean in the summer, however, though their hopes of luring him to Turf Moor may depend upon whether they can haul themselves off the bottom of the table and out of the drop zone.

Kadewere, linked with Celtic and Southampton before sealing a £12 million move to Lyon in 2020, has struggled for form of late. He hasn’t scored a single goal in 11 Ligue 1 and Europa League matches this ter.

He’s had his fair share of injury issues in that time, however. And it’s worth remembering that, just last season, Kadewere hit the target 10 times in 33 games.
