HITC understands that Bournemouth have struck an agreement with Barcelona to make a key defensive addition.

Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth have been busy this summer transfer window as the Cherries look to build on their solid first season under the Spaniard.

Most of the news over the past few days has been about Dominic Solanke’s potential move to Tottenham with HITC understanding that the Lilywhites are in talks with the Cherries over a deal for the English forward.

Enes Unal, Luis Sinisterra and Juventus’ Dean Huijsen have moved to Bournemouth this summer as the Cherries look to rise up the table with Iraola and now the South Coast club are closing in on a right-back addition.

Bournemouth strike Julian Araujo agreement

HITC sources have confirmed that Bournemouth have reached an agreement with Barcelona over defender Julian Araujo.

The United States-born Mexican international is understood to have agreed to make the move to the South Coast and the two clubs are now close to agreeing a deal worth around £10million, which will include a significant sell-on.

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona are understood to be open to allowing Araujo leave the club this summer due to the Catalan giants being keen on signing Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal from Manchester City.

The Portuguese defender spent last season on loan at the Nou Camp and Cancelo has admitted he wanted a return to Barcelona next season.

HITC had reported that Barcelona were keen to keep hold of Cancelo this summer after his loan spell and this is why the Spanish giants are ready to allow Araujo to leave the club.

Bournemouth beat Manchester United and Tottenham to Araujo deal

HITC understands that the Cherries have beaten off competition from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs to get a deal done for the full-back.

Sources have told HITC that Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United had all done checks on Araujo this summer as they looked at him as a potential right-back signing.

All three of these clubs are keen on making an addition at right-back with West Ham and United battling it out for Noussair Mazraoui this summer.

As for Spurs, Emerson Royal could be on his way out of the club this summer with a move to AC Milan in the offing so a replacement may well be sought after for the Brazilian.
