Manchester United fans are raving about Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli after his display against them last night.

What’s the story?

Martinelli may not have got on the scoresheet, but he did catch the eye for the Gunners on a rare start.

One powerful run in the second-half was a particular highlight, where he burst past both Scott McTominay and Fred before laying on a chance for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

But he was a constant threat throughout and actually looked far more dangerous than Aubameyang.

United fans were certainly impressed, with many describing him as Arsenal’s best player on the evening.

Catching the eye

Arsenal may have lost 3-2 yesterday, but Martinelli’s strong display certainly won’t harm his chances of featuring more regularly under Mikel Arteta.

His starting chance last night was only his third of the entire season.

With Aubameyang not firing on all cylinders right now, there may actually be a question of whether the Brazilian could take his place in Arsenal’s starting line-up.

Arteta certainly seemed to allude to the fact that Arsenal’s senior players aren’t offering the side as much as the young ones right now after the game yesterday.

The problem for Martinelli is that Bukayo Saka is now on the verge of a return to full fitness.

Saka has typically been favoured over him, but whether Arteta is convinced to give him a longer run in the side after his strong showing last night remains to be seen.
