Mikel Arteta has named Eddie Nketiah as one of Arsenal’s potential replacements for Bukayo Saka at his latest press conference, which was covered by Hayters TV on Youtube.

Nketiah’s chance?

Saka is now a doubt to face off against Manchester United, after picking up an injury in Arsenal’s last match.

There is some hope that the England international will return in time for tomorrow’s game, but if he doesn’t make it then Arteta was quizzed on his other options today.

And it was telling that he named Nketiah as one of the potential players who could step in to replace Saka, if he is sidelined through injury.

“He [Saka] is very important, but you also see the importance of Gabi when he came on, we have Nico to play in that position and we have Eddie, who can fulfil that potential,” Arteta said.

“That’s why players have to be ready to come into the team and make an impact.”

Big boost

It would have been easy for Arteta to forget about Nketiah, given his lack of impact this season.

The Arsenal forward has not played at all in the Premier League to date, with his only appearances coming in the League Cup

In truth it would be a surprise if he was called straight into the starting line-up on Thursday.

But it may be a boost for him to hear that he is at least under consideration by Arteta.

Nketiah’s lack of minutes actually leaves his Arsenal future looking very insecure.

The Daily Mail have reported today that he has turned down a new contract, which could see him leave the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer at the end of the season
