Tottenham and West Ham target Matthias Ginter has told Sport1 he has ‘no idea’ when he will sign a contract with a new club to leave Borussia Monchengladbach in a free transfer.
The centre-back is out of contract at the Bundesliga outfit at the end of the season and will leave North Rhine-Westphalia after five years. Die Fohlen signed Ginter for an initial €17m (£14m) from Borussia Dortmund, and he has proven instrumental at Borussia-Park since.
But Gladbach could not present the German international with a suitable offer before they announced he will leave the club. The situation initially saw boss Adi Hutter bench the 28-year-old, yet he has since overcome the brief – and rare – omission to regain his position.

A number of top clubs are now tracking the defender closely with his services available in a Bosman deal. Sky Sports claim Tottenham and West Ham have joined Juventus in scouting Ginter during Borussia Monchengladbach’s recent matches as they plot summer transfers.
Additionally, Sky Germany have listed Aston Villa among the 46-cap star’s Premier League suitors. Newcastle also explored a move during the January sales, with Inter Live reporting the Toon had the funds at hand to blow Bayern Munich and Inter Milan out of the market.
Tottenham, West Ham target Ginter doubts taking ‘much longer’ to decide future
Ginter has not signed with any club for next season yet, but the Tottenham and West Ham transfer target does not expect he will be waiting too long before deciding his future away from Borussia Monchengladbach as he leans on those close to him to debate the matter.
“At the moment I talk a lot with my family and with other people I trust,” Ginter said. “It’s difficult to come up with a timeline, but I don’t think it will be too long before there’s anything to announce.

“But whether it will ultimately be in one, two or three weeks – I have no idea. I don’t think it will take much longer. If something is fixed, it will also be reported. But until then you have to be patient.”
While Ginter refused to be drawn on any specific clubs or leagues he would be interested in joining, the German did detail what will go into his decision when deciding his future.
“It’s also about the family environment, that was always great here in Gladbach,” he said. “In addition, for me it is also about the club itself, about the fact that it has potential and is ambitious and that the sporting role planned for me fits.
“It is always important for a player that the coach likes you. There are a few sporty things, a few aside from that and ultimately you weigh things up. There will never be 100% security beforehand anyway, but you try to decide as well as possible.”
Tottenham and West Ham can potentially offer Ginter a chance to compete in Europe next season, as well as a new experience in the Premier League, unlike Aston Villa should they edge Juventus to secure the German star’s free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach.
