Celtic are yet to bring in an outfield player this summer, but Barry Ferguson thinks that could soon be coming to an end.
As of this moment, Brendan Rodgers will have his eyes set on the new Scottish Premiership campaign, which kicks off at home against Kilmarnock on August 4.
Two new faces will be in the Celtic squad. Starting goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, as he replaces the retired Joe Hart.
With rising star Viljami Sinisalo also joining Celtic from Aston Villa – he will be Schmeichel’s number two.
But where are those outfield players and why aren’t Celtic pushing the boat out, it’s pretty clear that Rangers are there for the taking.
In some cases, it’s understandable if there are delays or slow movement because the team is making sure the right players come in.
That’s for personnel Rodgers hasn’t worked with before, but the same can’t be said for last season’s loan stars.
Adam Idah left a huge impression on everyone, including on Ferguson, who stated that he ‘liked him’ as a player during his six-month loan spell.
As of this moment, Idah is still a Norwich City player, with Ferguson ‘surprised’ a deal hasn’t been done yet and how there is ‘major progression’ in the player.
Paulo Bernardo was also discussed by Ferguson and how Celtic should get him through their doors for the transfer fee that is being talked about, as he told Go Radio.
Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah returning to Celtic
“He (Bernardo) wasn’t always a certain starter,” said Ferguson. “If you are talking about that kind of money, what are they talking £4 million? You would expect, if you are spending that kind of money, then you are coming straight in and playing week in and week out.
“I think he is a good player. There is no doubt he certainly impressed when he played with Celtic. He might be one of those slow burners, you worked on him and having that experience of being at Celtic, then coming back this season, you could see a real strong Bernado who is going to play week in and week out.
On Idah also coming back: “I think the big man up top, Idah. I think there is major progression in him. I liked him. Big, strong boy. He knows where the back of the net is. I think there is still improvement to go for him. I can see why Norwich are wanting decent money for him because, in time, I think he can be a right top striker. He is big, strong and powerful. Another thing that impressed me when I watched him is his work ethic. He was a real team player. I am surprised Celtic haven’t already got that deal done. He has had the experience of being up here for six months. He knows what the club is all about.”

Celtic need to get a move on
When it comes to the Idah and Bernardo deals, there should be no excuses. You already know the players and it’s all about putting the money on the table.
Sources have told HITC that Bernardo wants to move to Celtic, so this one is most likely to get done instead of Idah.

But you could argue that the Irishman is the one who is needed most, especially given the big goals he scored for Celtic last term.
Although, the form of Kyogo Furuhashi in pre-season this summer has been pretty encouraging and he shouldn’t be slept on.
