Christian Pulisic has been heavily criticised for his performances for the United States men’s national team at the 2026 World Cup.
Pulisic is the face of the USMNT, and many expected him to star for Mauricio Pochettino’s side at this summer’s tournament.
However, the AC Milan winger played only 224 minutes at the World Cup and had minimal impact when he was on the pitch.
Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright has eviscerated Pulisic following the USA’s 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the Round of 16.
Christian Pulisic labelled ‘awful’ after the USMNT’s World Cup exit
Some football fans are already considering the 2026 World Cup the best World Cup ever because of the many superstar performances.
Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, and several other world-class players have all brought their A-game.

For the USMNT to reach the latter stages of the tournament, they needed their best player (Christian Pulisic) to deliver.
Unfortunately, Pulisic struggled to make an impact throughout the tournament and finished with no goals and one assist.
Nick Wright was far from impressed with Pulisic’s showing at the World Cup, especially given that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“This has been the World Cup of stars carrying their teams,” Wright posted in a brutal rant on social media.
“Our alleged star (Pulisic) got kicked in the calf, missed a game and a half, made almost zero impact outside of the first half of the first game, and then begged out in the biggest game of his career. So utterly disappointing.
“Pulisic skipped the Gold Cup—much to the dismay of many current and former teammates and his coach—to be ‘best ready’ for the World Cup.
“He then went six months without scoring before the World Cup, and then in the five games of the World Cup, he missed one and left two early with injury.
“To be clear, there were a TON of reasons the USMNT lost today—primarily that Belgium were way better in all facets.
“But to have the man who is supposed to be the greatest player in the history of our country simply no-show in the biggest tournament of his life is just awful.”
Although Pulisic’s World Cup performances were underwhelming, perhaps the expectations were too high to begin with.
The 27-year-old is not a world-class player and should not be expected to carry an international team to success.
