Arsenal have been joined by Unai Emery and Aston Villa in the race to bring Marcus Thuram to the Premier League.

Initially, most Arsenal fans would expect to beat the Villans to the France international’s signature, although we believe those at the Emirates Stadium will not be as confident.

What’s the story?

Well, it was L’Equipe in France who revealed that Aston Villa want to sign Thuram.

The story came after Milan Live revealed that Arsenal are interested, when stating that AC Milan are also keen.

Arsenal look highly likely to qualify for the Champions League this season, and find themselves five points clear at the top of the Premier League, which makes them seem like the favourites to sign Thuram.

However, Emery and Aston Villa can offer the 25-year-old an immediate place in the starting XI, and a fantastic opportunity to impose himself on the Premier League.

At Arsenal, Thuram would surely have to settle for a place on the bench at first, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli all shining.

That could swing things in Aston Villa’s favour, and given the fact Emery’s side are certainly not short of cash, they have the financial power to frustrate Arsenal and win this transfer battle.

Therefore, Arteta will not be happy to hear that Emery has entered the race.

Arsenal have backup options if Aston Villa sign Thuram

If Emery does win the race to sign Thuram, there are still alternatives for Arsenal.

One of those alternatives is Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Ukraine international has already admitted that he wants to join the Gunners, and recently liked an Instagram post about him moving to the Emirates Stadium, amid a claim from the Mirror that Edu has been in contact with Shakhtar Donetsk.

There is also said to be interest in Mohammed Kudus, who is currently starring for Ghana at the World Cup.

That is according to 90min, who believe Newcastle are also keen on the Ajax forward.

Keep an eye on Arsenal this January, as we expect them to be busy in the market.
