Arsenal are now said to be interested in a move for Newcastle target Sacha Boey – who admitted to rejecting a move to Celtic in 2021.

What’s the story?

Well – according to Tutto Mercato Web – the Gunners are keen on a move for the Frenchman as Mikel Arteta aims to improve his full-back department.

Boey – who can operate on either the right or left of defence – is also said to be a target for Newcastle, as claimed by Turkish Football.

Tutto Mercato Web believe Arsenal actually submitted a bid for the 22-year-old in January, but it was rejected.

The Italian news outlet describe Boey as someone who is “dominating” the Süper Lig right now at Galatasaray.

So far this season, the Galatasaray No.93 has made 20 appearances in Turkey’s top-flight, providing two assists.

Interestingly, Boey actually admitted to rejecting a move to Celtic in favour of joining the Turkish giants back in July 2021.

The France Under-20 international said: “Celtic wanted to sign me. I had to make a decision. I chose Galatasaray because it was a bigger club. That’s why I chose Galatasaray.”

A bold decision, but one that seems to have paid off as two of the Premier League’s top six in Arsenal and Newcastle now show an interest in securing Boey’s signature.

Arsenal can sign Boey for bargain fee

Foot Mercato in France believe Boey is set to sign a new contract with Galatasaray, which would initially appear to be bad news for Arsenal.

However, the defender’s new terms are said to include a release clause worth just €14m (£12m).

That represents a bargain fee for a club of Arsenal’s size, to say the least.

Presumably, Boey would also push for a move to the Emirates Stadium, where there is highly likely to be Champions League football next season as the Gunners sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as a summer move would seem to be fairly simple for Edu to complete.
