PSG have reportedly won the race to sign Italian international Gianluca Scamacca, with the French giants beating the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United and West Ham to the striker’s signature.
According to Le Parisien, the Ligue 1 champions have agreed with Sassuolo a €50m (£43m) fee for the attacker with the 23-year-old set to arrive in Paris next week to sign for PSG, with Scamacca set to become the club’s first signing under new manager Christophe Galtier, who is set to replace Mauricio Pochettino this week.
The move comes as part of a new transfer policy from PSG headed by Galtier and new sporting director Luis Campos, with the French side now looking to sign young players to help build around Kylian Mbappe rather than superstar names, with Scamacca the first new addition.
The forward enjoyed a breakout year in Serie A last season as Scamacca asserted himself as Italy’s new starting no. 9 and attracted a lot of interest from the Premier League, namely Arsenal, though Newcastle and West Ham later joined the race when it became clear that the Gunners were signing Gabriel Jesus.
Described as an ‘incredible’ striker with huge potential by the press in Italy, Scamacca could become one of Europe’s top attackers if he develops well at PSG under Galtier, with the forward set for a role alongside Mbappe next season if Neymar departs Paris.
Indeed, the likes of Arsenal and West Ham should be annoyed that they missed out on signing Scamacca, however, given Sassuolo’s demands for their star forward, it makes sense why the Premier League duo and Newcastle were hesitant on shelling out so much for the 23-year-old.
PSG signing Scamacca is an exciting move for the club

A giant of a striker who enjoyed his best year ever last season in Italy, Scamacca has the potential to become a star for PSG, and supporters should be excited by this signing, especially when it comes to the prospect of the forward linking up with Mbappe.
After all, Scamacca works well in an attacking-two, and alongside arguably the best forward in the world in Mbappe, the pair could cause havoc next season if Galtier gives the two the chance to shine together in the PSG frontline.
