Arsenal fans had real hope of a takeover earlier this year, but 2021 will likely end without a new attempt from Daniel Ek.
Gunners supporters were left outraged by the club’s attempts to join the European Super League earlier this year.
Fans wanted Stan Kroenke to sell up and leave the club. Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek then appeared to step forward as a candidate.
An Arsenal fan for many years, Ek indicated back in April that he wanted to buy the club.
Ek claims he made a bid for the club, but Kroenke didn’t want to sell. That appeared to be matter closed,
However, Ek was spotted with Thierry Henry at last month’s North London derby against Tottenham. That didn’t so much spark rumours up again, but just had the Swede back in the media.
Vieira comments on Ek and Arsenal
One man who was supposed to be involved in the takeover was Patrick Vieira.
However, the Arsenal legend ended up becoming Crystal Palace manager instead.

On Monday, Vieira’s Palace team take on Arsenal, and he has now offered comments about Ek and his takeover interest.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Vieira suggested that Ek’s takeover interest ultimately ended quickly due to Kroenke’s stance.
Vieira added that you simply can’t buy a football club if it isn’t for sale, pouring cold water on any lingering Ek hopes.
“When you were looking at the situation at the time it was clear that the Kroenke family was making the statement that the club is not for sale,” said Vieira. “Then I think everything was over. You can’t buy a football club if it is not for sale,” he added.
