Michael Owen says Everton have a manager in Frank Lampard that ‘can’t get the best’ out of the current crop of players he has and how ‘nothing’ is going right at Goodison Park.

The former England striker touched upon how Everton and Arsenal have ‘never’ been relegated during his lifetime, whilst Dimitar Berbatov added that the ‘really big club’ needs to go back to being ‘nasty’ on home soil.

Well, they were far from that on Saturday when fellow relegation strugglers Southampton turned up to Merseyside, and despite falling behind, walked away with a valuable three points.

As things stand, the club are sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone and many fear they will be sitting in the bottom three by the time the final ball is kicked in May.

During their long, deep-rooted and rich history, Everton have been relegated – twice in fact and the last relegation taking place way back in 1950/1

They have survived many car crashes before, but this is the deepest mess they have ever found themselves in, with Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov sharing their thoughts, as they told Premier League Productions (14/01/23 at 5:25 pm).

“There’s nothing going right for the football club,” said Owen. “The only good thing is that there is a nice new stadium that’s not far off completion and one they don’t want in the Championship, no.

“Apart from that, they have a set of players that aren’t producing. They have a manager that can’t get the best out of those sets of players. A group of fans who aren’t happy. This is a club that’s so well-supported. It has been in the top division for possibly anyone?! Is it Arsenal? Everton and Arsenal have never been relegated.

“It’s a real historic club, Everton and it’s going through a bad patch, and it has for some while actually. Frustrations from everyone and they are getting vented towards the board.”

Berbatov added: “Everton is a really big club. I think they should go back to the days when they are a bit nasty on the pitch – they need to get back to this type of nastiness on the pitch and putting fear into the opposition. When you go now, it’s too easy.”

A BOARD THAT CAN’T BE TRUSTED

It’s a complete and utter mess at Everton, with those at the top having to take firm responsibility.

Many managers, CEOs and players have come and gone, yet one thing remains the same and that’s Farhad Moshiri still sitting at the top of the tree and people like Bill Kenwright on the board.

The least Moshiri can do is clear out his board and bring in new faces that will lift the mood around the place because it’s very toxic right now.
